La Odisea es un clásico dentro de la literatura universal. Fue escrita por Homero en el siglo VIII a.C. Es un poema épico griego.
Cuenta el regreso de Ulises a Ítaca, tras la guerra de Troya. Allí le espera su fiel esposa Penélope y su hijo Telémaco. Odiseo, que había estado luchando durante diez años en la guerra, destaca por su ingenio. Con el favor de Atenea, trata durante diez años de regresar a su patria luchando contra los obstáculos y desafíos que Poseidón le envía, ofendido por no haber realizado los sacrificios correspondientes por su victoria en Troya.
Esta obra, junto con la Ilíada, marca profundamente el pensamiento de la Grecia clásica y es uno de los primeros textos escritos conservados de la literatura occidental. Antes de plasmarse en papel, fue transmitido de manera oral por aedos que lo cantaban de memoria.
