Heródoto de Halicarnaso (en griego ρόδοτος λικαρνσσεύς) fue un historiador y geógrafo griego que vivió entre el 484 y el 425 a. C. Los nueve lbros de la historia es una obra escrita en dialecto jonio que narra los efrentamientos que tuvieron lugar entre griegos y bárbaros (asiáticos, especialmente persas) y, en concreto, las Guerras Médicas. También contiene una descripción de la historia y costumbres del Antiguo Egipto.
